Letters to Our Church Family

Cedar Branch Baptist Church

Dear Church Family,

The Gospel is the good news of what God has done to save sinners through Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection are the reason we can have forgiveness, a restored relationship with God, and hope beyond this life.

Here at Cedar Branch Baptist Church, we want this good news to shape our life together. Whether you have followed Jesus for many years or are still exploring what Christians believe, we hope this letter helps you understand the Gospel and respond to Christ.

Our Need for a Savior

Scripture tells us the truth about ourselves. Every one of us has sinned. Sin includes the wrong things we do and the good we fail to do. It reaches into our words, our thoughts, and the motives of our hearts. We have fallen short of the holiness God requires.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:23 NKJV

That truth includes each of us, regardless of our background or how long we have attended church. We all need God’s mercy. Comparing ourselves with someone else cannot remove our guilt before Him.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23 NKJV

Sin brings death and separates us from God. Because God is holy and just, our sin must be dealt with. We cannot repair that relationship through our own efforts. We need a Savior who can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

God has not left us without hope. In His love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. John 3:16 tells us that whoever believes in Him has everlasting life.

Jesus lived without sin and willingly went to the cross. There He bore our sins and gave His life for us. He was buried, and on the third day He rose from the dead. Paul identifies these events as the heart of the Gospel:

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

From 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 NKJV

The cross shows the seriousness of our sin and the depth of God’s love. Jesus willingly bore the judgment our sins deserved. Peter writes that Christ bore our sins in His own body on the cross (1 Peter 2:24). Our forgiveness rests on His sacrifice.

The resurrection is essential to this good news. Paul explains that if Christ had not risen, our faith would be futile and we would still be in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). Jesus is alive. We can trust Him as our living Savior, and those who belong to Him have the promise of eternal life.

Salvation Is a Gift from God

Many people hope that doing enough good will make them right with God. Scripture directs us to the grace of God and the saving work of Jesus Christ.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV

Salvation is God’s gift, received through faith in Jesus. Church attendance, baptism, generosity, and good deeds cannot earn it. Our confidence must rest in who Jesus is and what He has accomplished through His death and resurrection.

This gives us reason for humility and gratitude. Every believer depends on the same mercy. We come to God empty-handed, trusting Christ to forgive us and make us right with Him.

Responding with Repentance and Faith

Jesus calls us to respond personally to this good news:

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Mark 1:15 NKJV

Repentance involves a change of mind and heart toward God and sin. We acknowledge that our sin is wrong and turn to God for mercy. It goes beyond regret over being caught or suffering consequences. We stop defending our sin and turn toward the One who can forgive and change us.

We come to Jesus as sinners who need forgiveness. Repentance does not require us to make ourselves worthy of salvation before coming to Him. We turn to Christ because we need His grace.

Faith means placing our trust in Jesus Christ Himself. Knowing facts about Him is an important beginning, but saving faith involves relying on Him as Lord and Savior. When the Philippian jailer asked how he could be saved, Paul and Silas told him to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30–31).

Repentance and faith belong together. We turn from sin to God and entrust ourselves to Jesus. Neither repentance nor faith earns salvation. We receive the salvation He graciously provides.

Following Jesus as a Church Family

Trusting Christ begins a new life of following Him. Jesus calls His disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). We learn to submit our choices to His Word and depend on His strength each day.

Our obedience grows out of salvation. Ephesians 2:10 teaches that believers are created in Christ Jesus for good works. We follow Him because He has saved us; discipleship does not purchase His forgiveness.

That growth happens in ordinary life. We learn to forgive someone who has hurt us, speak with patience at home, and act honestly when no one is watching. When we sin, we confess it to God and seek His help to walk faithfully again.

As a church family, we can help one another along the way. We gather around Scripture, pray for those who are struggling, and encourage each other to obey Christ. The Gospel gives us a reason to treat one another with humility and grace, remembering how much mercy we ourselves have received.

An Invitation to Trust Christ

Perhaps you have known about Jesus for years but have never personally trusted Him. Perhaps you are reading about the Gospel for the first time. We invite you to consider what Christ has done and respond to Him in repentance and faith.

You can speak honestly to God about your sin and your need for His mercy. Place your trust in Jesus Christ, who died for your sins and rose again. You do not need to wait until you think you have become good enough. Come to the Savior who welcomes those who turn to Him.

“the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”

John 6:37 NKJV

If you have questions or would like to talk about trusting Christ, we invite you to speak with our pastor or a trusted believer in our church family. Ask your questions and open God’s Word together.

For those who already belong to Christ, take time this week to read 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 and Ephesians 2:1–10. Reflect on the grace you have received. Then think of someone who needs to hear this good news. Pray for that person and look for an opportunity to explain the Gospel in your own words.

A Prayer for Our Church Family

Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for our sins and rise again. Help us place our hope fully in Him. Lead those who do not yet know You to repentance and faith. Teach us to follow Your Word and care for one another with the mercy You have shown us. Give our church opportunities to share the Gospel with our neighbors. In Jesus’ name, amen.

With love in Christ,

Cedar Branch Baptist Church
